Feature Request Management for Indie SaaS: A Practical Guide

June 11, 2026 · By Roadmaplane Editorial Team

Every indie SaaS starts collecting feedback the same way: a Notion page, a Discord channel, a few DMs. It works until it doesn't. Here's how to graduate to a system that scales without a product manager.

1. Collect in one place

Scattered feedback is invisible feedback. The first move is a single front door — one public board you link from your app and emails — so every request lands in the same inbox instead of five different tools.

2. Dedupe before it snowballs

Ten people will ask for the same thing in ten different phrasings. If those become ten posts, your board looks noisy and your vote counts are meaningless. Catching duplicates at submit time keeps signal intact.

A request with 140 votes tells you what to build. Fourteen posts with 10 votes each tell you nothing.

3. Prioritize with real signal

Raw vote counts are a start, but velocity matters more — a request that gained 60 votes this week beats one that slowly accumulated 80 over a year. Weight by who's voting, too: a request from paying, higher-plan customers deserves extra pull.

  • Vote velocity: momentum over lifetime totals.
  • Customer value: weight votes by plan or revenue.
  • Effort vs impact: the classic 2×2 still earns its keep.

4. Close the loop

The step everyone skips. When you ship, tell the people who asked. It costs nothing and it's the entire reason the system compounds — people who get heard come back with more (and better) feedback.

You can run all four steps by hand at first. Once your board crosses a few hundred posts, a purpose-built tool like Roadmaplane — with AI dedup and automatic voter notifications — turns the busywork into a background process. Read the Canny comparison if you're weighing options.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What is feature request management?

Feature request management is the process of collecting, organizing, prioritizing, and responding to customer suggestions for product improvements.

How should a small SaaS prioritize feature requests?

Combine demand, customer value, strategic fit, urgency, and implementation effort. Vote totals alone should not make the decision.
